WE THE POWER | THE FUTURE OF ENERGY IS COMMUNITY-OWNED

A film about the citizen-led community-energy movement in Europe and the visionaries lighting the way.

Imagine upending the traditional energy system and giving the power of clean electricity production back to your neighbors. We the Power follows friends, families and visionaries as they break down legislative barriers and take power back from big energy companies to put it in the hands of locals and strengthen their towns. The film chronicles local cooperatives from deep in Germany’s Black Forest to the streets of ancient Girona in Spain and the urban rooftops of London, England, as they pave the way for a renewable energy revolution and build healthier, financially stable communities.

JULIAN SCHUETTER JOINS ATHLETES ACT NOW

Julian Schuetter is the freshest voice of sustainability in the Alpine Ski World Cup. In 2022 Julian entered the highest-ranking competitive ski circus to work his way up to the top. Certainly, that brought a lot of traveling activities for the young athlete, ranging from the alps to the American Rockies. As travelling in competitive sport is responsible for the largest share of an athlete's CO2 emission, Julian even considered leaving the competitive landscape. After a thoughtful process, he decided to stay and use his voice to give sustainability a platform in the Ski World Cup.

Last year he tracked all his traveling activities and calculated the CO2 Emissions he emitted. With a CO2 price of €180 per ton, as demanded by Fridays for Future, Julian compensated for all emissions he could not avoid. To see the full calculation, you can go to this Link.

Julian is well aware that compensation is the last step and that reduction is the key. This is why Julian doesn't own a car and travels by train or joins the ÖSV team bus, while looking for further possibilities to reduce his emissions. But his most important issue is to fight for new frame conditions in this sport, so everyone can compete in a sustainable way.

We wish Julian a great skiing season and thank him for his effort to further reduce emissions in competitive sports.

THE FRONT LINES (2022) | A CLIMATE CHANGE SKI FILM

Skiing is at the front lines of climate change. Snow conditions are deteriorating year after year, especially in terms of elevation, leading to dangerous conditions in the mountains and an unpredictable future for the next generation of freeriders. As skiers, snowboarders, and mountain enthusiasts, we have a responsibility to protect these natural environments we call home. It’s the biggest collective action problem in human history and everyone needs to do their part.

Kayley Sherlock, Kai Smart, and Michael Mawn explore their concerns surrounding climate change and investigate how the ski industry is responding to protect their winters.
